Educational Partnership Between Seychelles and Russia

Following the successful mass sterilisation campaign for cats and dogs in January 2024, many Seychellois students expressed a strong interest in learning the Russian language in order to continue their education at Russian universities in the future. In response, SAWI organised online Russian language classes in collaboration with the Russian Embassy, fully sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Education. Throughout the programme, SAWI remained actively involved and fully committed to supporting students both online and in the classroom. From organising lessons and encouraging participation to maintain strong educational collaboration, SAWI worked continuously to ensure the success of the initiative.

In October 2024, with great enthusiasm and dedication, a group of Russian teachers visited Seychelles to continue the online programme in person. SAWI warmly welcomed the teachers, and during their visit, the Memorandum of Cooperation between SAWI and Shadrinsk State Pedagogical University was extended and officially signed.

On 25 October 2024, the final International Olympiad Competition took place, bringing together student teams from Seychelles and Madagascar in a fun and exciting educational event. Four outstanding Seychellois students were selected and offered a fully sponsored educational visit to Russia to experience the Russian language, culture, traditions, and cuisine firsthand.

This visit marked an important milestone in the development of the project, strengthening educational and cultural ties between Seychelles and Russia. Beyond education, SAWI also took great care to introduce the visiting teachers to the beauty, culture, hospitality, and spirit of Seychelles, ensuring their experience was meaningful, memorable, and deeply connected to the local community.

Together, we explored the breathtaking trails of Anse Major and enjoyed the panoramic views from Copolia. We travelled around the island, ventured south to experience local life, and introduced them to the rich flavours of authentic Seychellois cuisine.

A special highlight was visiting the capital, Victoria, where they experienced a vibrant cultural music event and felt the true rhythm of the islands.

SAWI believe in connection, cultural exchange, and sharing the beauty of Seychelles with sincerity and pride. It was a joy to create these moments together and to build friendships that reach beyond borders.
